This is the story of a dangerous fool I guess we could call him John Counted his losses too steep to climb And in the mornin' he was gone Living off the strip in the city of dreams Became a game he would never win So he headed out into the desert With a pistol and a bottle of gin He kept his eyes on the road ahead Like he had his whole sorry life He didn't care about the expectant girlfriend Or the wife that he left behind In a deep purple suit sunfaded and worn A beacon in a smokey back room He drank his last bill and the air was still When he stepped out beneath the moon He cried it's cold in the twilight And I've spent my final dime I'm waiting for the reaper And I sure hope they is kind Fuel ran out on the side of the road So he slept there beneath the stars A coyote howled at the rock in the sky And it echoed low and far A fistful of gin the desert wind With the barrel on top of his tongue But his gambling soul had dice to roll So he waited for the mornin' come As it rose above that jagged horizon All it was was red and round In it's unending rotation There was no truth to be found So Called John knew he could not run So he waited for the thirst and the violence to come Cursing the day and the sky And the stupid sun

Shame shame shame What a way to get some kicks Willing but unable An unstable unreliable dick Sat 'fore the bottle when I see the light At the end of the tunnel At the end of the night When the sun comes up I'm dumb and I'm flawed And I am a god In the morning I'll take a short one To quell a shake I ain't got much to give to this world I'm just a thief on the take Waves of nauseating paranoia And I won't let them in I'll piss on the sparks Before a fire can begin And I'll never dry off I'm dumb and I'm flawed And I am a god I found poetry on the barstool But I've forgotten it there There down and under the volcano And almost falling off my chair Soon I'll be lying in a puddle of myself Or I'll be dying in a stranger's house Day dreaming as it hits I flash back to something I tried to forget I've been runnin' in denial and in style Now here I sit with my regrets The end is nigh And the money's run out Driftin' terrified and filled with doubt Amidst the failure and the strife And I'm expected to be honest and right When I'm wrapped up in the circle of... The circle of life

about

'So Called John' and 'Circle Of Life' are two songs I've been playing live with my band the last year or so. We played them every night on a European tour last summer. This is where the cover photo was taken, specifically Florence, I'm bringing plastic cups and a bottle of wine back from the dep. I was walking with a cane from a late night tumble.

Recorded by Peter Woodford, mixed with Renny Wilson, both are kind of outlaw songs about losers. When the lockdown began I thought I could do a small release of these two songs. I decided to do a small lathe pressing just to have something physical, but the format lends itself to the bright, AM mix in some way.

about

Kristian North Montreal, Québec

Kristian North eviscerates the very notion of restraint with a maximalist sci-fi epic grounded in the sounds of ‘70s soul, funk, and disco, with dizzying detours into the wildly disparate realms of rock opera, show tunes, and Hawaiian-tinged country, culminating in an assemblage that defies categorization. ... more
